Deep Space Call and Response is a twelve-and-a-half minute sound composition. The artist worked with data from the European Space Agency (ESA) to render audible the patterns of movement and communication between 11 space missions and the network of ground stations that support them. Using a process of data sonification as the basis for a creative composition based on samples recorded at home, the piece enables these complex interactions to be experienced poetically, through music. At this evening’s session you are warmly invited to meet the artist, ask her questions about the making of the work, and/or hear the piece for yourself.
