What does it take to fund science too urgent to ignore? Join ARIA, Convergent Research, and The Scottish National Investment Bank for an evening exploring how we back bold research in an uncertain world, and why new organisational forms are emerging in the UK.
ARIA was built to make big bets on frontier science, backing the kind of moonshot ideas that could fundamentally change how we weather climate uncertainty. We'll hear from ARIA Programme Director Mark Symes on the frontier of climate cooling, Kristin Ellis from Convergent Research on new models like Focused Research Organisations (FROs), and Mike Wedderspoon from The Scottish National Investment Bank on the role of public capital in shaping what's next.
The evening will also include a fireside chat between Tosca Tindall of Echo Labs – an environmental data FRO – in conversation with innovation specialist Joanne Hagerty. Together they'll explore what an FRO actually looks like in practice, and what it means to build capability at an entirely new scale.
Throughout the night, enjoy our signature mix of immersive activities and workshops that will weave together art, science, and dialogue. This is an evening about uncertainty, but also about the people and models daring to weather it.

Come along for an evening of great conversations, fresh ideas, and new connections. With a relaxed atmosphere and refreshments throughout, it’s a space to meet people, share perspectives, and spark something new.
SphaeroSymphony is an interactive artwork that translates real-time air quality data from a global network of environmental sensors into evolving music and visuals. At Venture Café, visitors will be able to explore the project through an interactive setup featuring VR headsets and tablets. Participants can experience the immersive version of the work, where environmental data becomes a living audiovisual system, and chat with the creators about how art, data, and technology can reveal hidden patterns in the air around us.
What is the one idea worth your next ten years? And what are you going to do about it in the next three months?
That is the challenge at the heart of the Moonshot Coffee Wall, a live interactive installation brought to the event by Mark Zwinderman of The Moonshot Factory. Inspired by the Moonshot Method, visitors are invited to write their moonshot, their next commitment, and who they need to meet to make it happen, and then pin it to the wall.
Because the right conversation over a coffee is all it takes.
As the event unfolds, the wall fills with ambitions. Others can offer to make an introduction, share an insight, or simply grab a coffee. The small connections that quietly change everything.
