Dr Elena Kniazeva is Senior Programme Manager for Critical Technologies at Technology Scotland, Cluster Management Organisation (CMO) for Scotland’s Critical Technologies Supercluster. In this role, she works across sectors such as semiconductors, photonics, quantum, sensing and connectivity. She supports industry engagement, cross-sector collaboration, internationalisation, skills development, innovation, and the growth of the wider ecosystem.

\r\n

Elena holds a double PhD from the European Marie Skłodowska-Curie network, where her research focused on advanced semiconductor lasers and QEPAS gas sensing technologies across Italy, France and Germany, building on her earlier experience in fibre-optic sensing. Prior to joining Technology Scotland, Elena worked as an R&D Engineer at the Critical Technologies Accelerator (CTA), contributing to complex, multi-stakeholder projects across semiconductor and quantum technologies. Elena also has extensive experience in scientific communication, industry engagement and outreach.

The creative and cultural industries are often treated as a ‘nice-to-have,’ rather than the infrastructure that actually makes Scotland a global destination. The country’s creative sector in particular is already a powerhouse, from games and film to literature and festivals. And while it punches above its weight, it doesn’t seem to command the same attention or capital as other industries.

Mark Logan is the former COO of Skyscanner, and former Chief Advisor to the Scottish Government on Entrepreneurship, where he authored Scotland’s national tech start-up strategy. He is currently Professor of Technology Entrepreneurship at the University of Glasgow, a Senior Enterprise Fellow at the University of Strathclyde, Entrepreneur-in-Residence at The Royal Conservatoire of Scotland, Visiting Professor at The Glasgow School of Art, and Co-founder of Ipso-Facto Management, a scale-up consultancy, where he has trained and mentored over 200 start-up and scale-up founders.

\r\n

Mark has almost 30 years of senior leadership experience in the high- tech sector, including as COO of Skyscanner, where he was responsible for the general management of the business during the company’s high-growth phase, scaling the business to 1000 people and culminating in its sale for £1.45B in 2016. In 2014, the Institute of Directors named him Director of the Year and in 2016 he won the UK Digital Masters award for Excellence in General Management. He has been conferred honorary doctorates from the University of Glasgow and Robert Gordon University for this contribution to the technology industry. In 2022, he was admitted as a Fellow of the Royal Society of Edinburgh for his contribution to Scotland’s technology industry, and was awarded an OBE in 2023 for service to the economy.

Jessica Fox is an author, director and executive producer developing ambitious, female-led film and television. Her debut novel Three Things You Need to Know About Rockets was a Waterstones' Book of the Month and Oprah’s summer read pick. Her directing work includes The First Last Tour, a documentary on The Dresden Dolls commissioned by iTunes, Stella, a Scottish reimagining of Cinderella starring Gary Lewis which won Best Director (Montreal Independent Film Festival) and is currently streaming on STV, Amazon and she is in development with her next original feature, Spaghetti Western with Grammy award winning Rhiannon Giddens attached.

Fox has held senior storytelling roles with global science institutions, including serving as Resident Storyteller at NASA, and co-hosts the podcast MoonSnacks with NASA’s former Chief Knowledge Officer Ed Hoffman. She is also the founder of The Open Book, Airbnb’s most popular destination and first ever bookshop holiday experience. She writes for her Substack BABE where she celebrates all things costume drama, science and storytelling.
